The Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of Field Education is a full-time, eleven-month, non-tenure track renewable faculty position at Maryville University. The Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of Field Education is responsible for managing both the administrative and teaching components of the field education component within Maryville University's fully online Social Work Program. The position is split equally between teaching and administrative duties, encompassing 12 credits annually (typically 6 credits in Fall and 6 credits in Spring). As a key member of the program, the Director ensures field education courses meet accreditation standards, supports students and adjunct faculty, and facilitates student placements with appropriate field supervisors. The role reports directly to the Program Director of the Social Work Program and subsequently to the Associate Dean of Social Sciences, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the VPAA, this position is entirely remote as the Social Work Program is 100% online.
Teaching Responsibilities (50%):
• Course Instruction: Teach 12 credits annually, focusing on field education courses (SWRK 470, 480, 490).
• Course Development: Design and update field education curriculum to align with current educational standards and accreditation requirements.
• Accreditation Compliance: Collaborate with the Program Director and other stakeholders to ensure course content complies with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) standards competency-based learning and EPAS requirements
• Student Advising: Serve as a Faculty Professional Advisor for social work students post-completion of SWRK 202, working in partnership with the School of Adult and Online Education (SAOE) and other online advisors to provide comprehensive student advising.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Program Director to address educational needs within field education.
Administrative Responsibilities (50%):
• Adjunct Faculty Support: Oversee and provide support to adjunct faculty teaching field education courses.
• Field Readiness: Ensure students are well-prepared for field education experiences.
• Compliance: Maintain adherence to CSWE accreditation standards by working closely with the Program Director.
• Placement Coordination: Match students with field placements and supervisors, following program guidelines.
• Supervisor Communication: Provide orientation and maintain communication with nationwide Field Supervisors/Educators, ensuring program policies and documentation requirements are met.
• Articulation Agreements: Serve as the primary point of contact for field placement agreements, coordinating with placement agencies, Program Director, and Associate Dean.
• Field Site Development: Develop and manage field sites for student placements.
• Student Oversight: Support students throughout their field education experience, ensuring their readiness and managing assessment documentation.
• Data Collection: Collect and analyze annual field education outcomes in partnership with the Program Director.
• Supervision: Provide weekly supervision to students with non-social work degree supervisors.
• Documentation Management: Administer field education documentation through platforms such as CANVAS, Slack, and Tevera.
• Student Communication: Act as a liaison for students regarding field education queries and concerns throughout the program.
• Administrative Reporting: Maintain the Field Education spreadsheet in SharePoint and provide updates during faculty meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
• Significant experience in field education, including coordinating placements and managing student readiness.
• Knowledge of CSWE accreditation standards and EPAS requirements.
• Experience teaching or developing online courses, preferably in a social work program.
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in using online learning management systems (e.g., CANVAS) and communication tools (e.g., Slack, Tevera).
